The 2020 wedding season has definitely started on a very emotional note for me. I returned early from South Africa to shoot Kirsten & Brian’s wedding at the Highland Archive and Registration Centre in Inverness. Brian was diagnosed with terminal cancer and no time was wasted to plan their wedding day. Every friend and family member pulled together to make this an unforgettable day for them.
I knew, emotionally, this would be a very difficult shoot for me, but wanted to give Brian & his family something special to look back on.
Mel from Wedding Belles Alness helped Kirsten pick out the perfect wedding dress with beautiful strappy detail on the back and Fiona from The Flower Company nailed the flowers with special little sentimental details throughout Kirsten’s wedding bouquet.
It was a tremendous honour to get to know and spend time with Brian & Kirsten and there’s no-one better placed to tell their story, so in their own words…
…”We wouldn’t want anything left out, it is part of our story.
So we first met as my parents became friends with some of Brians family, and he got roped into helping me move flat. We dated for a while but was not meant for be at that time. We remained friends and I moved away for work, but after years of perseverance from Brian we got second time lucky. Lucky for us then Neve arrived (and previous to this a perfect wee man Harris from Brians previous relationship). As with most things you assume you have all the time in the world, and so when we had the news of Brians cancer the most important thing for us to do as a couple was to get married…..so we got engaged and the rest followed rather quickly!!
The most special thing to us on our wedding day was having our children with us and playing a part in our bridal party. We enjoyed the entire day from start to finish, from our children being flower girl/ring bearer, to our friends playing music (cello/bagpipes), to the amazing atmosphere and happiness created by our friends and family. I don’t think myself or Brian stopped smiling all day, nor felt sad, or any of the tremendous emotions we have been feeling constantly since his diagnosis. For one beautiful day we got to be just happy, in love, hopeful!” -Kirsten
